Have you ever heard of Pristis Microdon Latham? Well, it is a large species of an exotic freshwater sawfish. It is indeed a very special fish with shark like body structure and it is surely an eye opener if one gets to see it together with other freshwater fishes and exotic stingrays.

On Sunday 25th April 2004, members of Arowana Club, in particular, Simon (bUrPz), Jimmy (jimmychoy) and myself had a one in a lifetime opportunity to see in what exactly what is a sawfish and how it accomodates very well with other exotic stingrays and fresh water fishes.

With that in mind, we headed down to Elton's place. Elton's passion for fishes especially rays started off with a humble motoro. His collection of rays soon began to grow in numbers. Being a warm, approachable and a determine individual, it is not surprising that he is able to juggle both work and play effectively. A dedicated member of Arowana Club , he often set aside his busy schedule in an Air Frieght industry to be with friends from our forum. His other pets include a Dalmatian(Tyson) and JRT (Ninja).

Elton is seen here with both Tyson and Ninja overseeing the pond which was built specially for his collections of assorted sting rays.

The spacious pond with 2.5FT in depth began its construction on the 23rd December 2003 and was completed on 17th January 2004 just before Chinese New Year.

The pond is professionally landscaped to have a touch of warm, cosy and relaxing atmosphere. It is boast a large swimming area for all his fishes. Coupled with 3 underwater lights for an evening view and a huge 10x10 feet canopy umbrella, it certainly worth the effort invested in it.

Unique statues of instrumentalist from Indonesia and large potted ferns chosed as both the backdrop and corners of the pond respectively. Simply amazing!

Did you see a crocodile there? Hehe, that is yet another brilliant and innovative ideas to providing some shades to the rays! Water lettuces surrounding it makes the whole landscape closer to nature.

The pond's filtration system is currently powered by 3 Nos of NOVA 600. With medias ranging from top grade Japanese (Blue and Green) matt, Biohome (Red), quality bio rings and coral chips, it is by no surprise that water quality in the pond is clear and parameters are stable. In fact, cycling the pond for the first time only make uses of 2 bottles of Nutrafin Cycle.According to Elton, rain is not an issue here as it was designed to handle like any other Koi pond.

Here are the summary of Pond profile.Project Commencing Date: 23rd DEC 2003.
Project Completion Date: 17th JAN 2004.
Pond Dimension: 14 x 8 x 2

This is a Polka Dot Ray. Look at the stunning white dots. Simply beautiful.

This is one of the picture taken during the feeding time of the rays. The rays are fed once a day in the evening with 500 grams of market prawn with shell (minus the tail end and pincer).

Feeders like the tomans are plenty in the pond too. Anytime, anywhere there are always plenty of food for all fishes.

In this picture you will be able to see most the rays are in an orderly manner. This is indeed the best rays community that we have seen so far.
